LOCATIONS

John Punderson of Yorkshire, England sailed to Boston, Massachusetts in 1637 with his wife, Margaret Unknown. They moved to New Haven, Connecticut in 1639 and he became a pillar of the community. The name is French and was spelled Ponchardeon.

John Punderson Jr. wed Damaris Atwater in 1667. They lived in New Haven, Connecticut. She died in 1711 and he died 1729.

Damaris Atwater born in 1648 or 49 is the daughter of David Atwater (1615-1698) of Lenham, Kent, England who left there during the purge of Puritans by the Church of England. David was the son of John Atwater (1567-1636) and Susan Narsin (1577-1637) of Kent, England. John Atwater's father was Christopher Atwater (1521-1573) and Maryan (born 1534). David Atwater arrived in Boston in 1637 and was an early settler in New Haven, Connecticut in 1641. On 3/10/1647 in New Haven, he married Demaris Sayre, daughter of Thomas Sayre and Margaret Aldrich who lived in Southhampton (Suffolk County), New York. Damaris Sayre was the older sister of the wife of Benjamin Price.

Thomas Sayre (1597-1670)  and Margaret Aldrich (1600-8/23/1634), both of whom came from Leighton on Buzzard, Bedfordshire, England.sailed to and died in Southhampton, Long Island, New York. Thomas and Margaret's children were Daniel (1620-1708), Francis (1625-1691), Job, (1632-1694) Hannah (1633-1730) all of whom died on Long Island; Damaris Sayre (1625-1691) who married David Atwater of the Punderson line and died in New Haven, Connecticut; and Joseph (1627-1695)and Mary Alice Sayre (1630-??) who died in Elizabeth, NJ.

David Punderson was born in 1686, married Sarah Alling in 1716 and died in 1731. She died three decades later. ) Sarah was the daughter of Samuel Alling who married Sarah Chidsey, daughter of John Chidsey (1621-1688) and Elizabeth Unknown.

Deacon David Punderson Jr. was born in1718 and married Thankful Todd in 1736. He died in 1777 and she died in Watertown, Connecticut in 1798.    

Anna Punderson was born in Wallingford, Connecticut in 1763, baptized 10/9/1763 and married Charles Merriman in Watertown, Connecticut in 1784. She died there in 1844.
